Not far south of here is a lil' ol record label by the name of Fat Possum. They put out some mighty fine records, including things from The Walkmen, Smith Westerns and that band Wavves you might know of. The rise of bands like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings sort of renews my faith in the general ear of humanity. Makes me think that in the past 50 years or so since the birth of soul, that part of us that's seduced by a knock-out voice over the perfect combination of bass and horns never went away.
