O+S haunt the halls on their etherial self-titled debut. Musique Non Stop | (0)
There's a tricky dissonance that wafts through the undercurrent of the most beautiful recordings I've listened to in my life. It's the unexpected collaborations or spellbinding accidents of circumstance that unite elements into original flavors. The illogical syllogisms in music are the ones that surprisingly seem to work the best. Such is the case of O+S, whose self-titled debut will be released via Saddle Creek Records on March 24th. Don Blackman’s self-titled soul-funk odyssey still bumps. Musique Non Stop | (2)
Through time and circumstance, a lot of what record fans consider to be "classic" falls by the wayside. Such is the fate of the critically-acclaimed and oft-sampled solo album by soul master, funk pioneer and session mastermind Don Blackman. This 1982 record is still available as an import for a whopping $39.99 in the U.S. However, it's worth every cent of that and more. Flawless keyboard arrangements and vocals, tight funky-basslines, synth and Moog progressions that are unlike anything you're likely to hear anywhere else, the album transcends its out-of-print status on repeated listenings. Funk fans, take ...

Folk Alliance 2009: Questlove connects with Bela Fleck and connects the dots between Folk Music and Hip-Hop. Interviews, Music Conferences, Music News, Musique Non Stop | (0)
As part of the 2009 International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, the Red Bull Music Academy put together a creativity workshop session featuring ?uestlove (the drummer for The Roots) and jam-jazz-folk legend Bela Fleck. During the weekend presentation at Ardent Studios, Quest addressed a series of questions from moderator Lucia Kaminsky about both his personal background in music and the state of the music industry over the 22 years in which The Roots have been together. Now, if y'all haven't ever heard Quest talking about anything before, you really ought to listen: he offered up to the tightly-packed ...

The Whitest Boy Alive: the inimitable Erland Oye and co. return to teach us the Rules. Music News, Musique Non Stop | (0)
An observation: I think if Erlend Oye were a type of fabric, he’d be a smooth vinyl suede. After all, the Norwegian crooner has made his career out of experimenting with various combinations of the synthetic and the smooth. The latest of these efforts is Rules, the second release from The Whitest Boy Alive, due out on Bubbles in March. The Berlin-based group’s 2007 debut, Dreams, was about as close as dance-rock can come to producing a concept album; the stripped-down guitar/bass/drums/vocals galvanized by spare, funky rhythmic consistency made for an album as danceable as it is listenable. This sophomore ...

Amy LaVere is tonight’s musical guest on Conan O’Brien Monday, February 2nd. Memphis Music News, Music News, Musique Non Stop | (0)
She's the star of the new web-based series from MTV and director Craig Brewer entitled Five Dollar Cover. She can "triple-slap the upright bass like Willie Dixon on Steroids" (according to Jim Dickinson). She can sing like a siren. She's been on tour the world around, playing packed-out shows at places like the Royal Albert Hall. And tonight, Memphis-based upright bass player, vocalist and film engeneue Amy LaVere, will be the musical guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien tonight, Monday night (Feb. 2). According to the Archer Records website, this will mark Amy's late night debut here ...
