Aimee Mann’s new album is being hailed by some as “a masterpiece” and I’m hard-pressed to disagree. Have you ever wanted a chance to sing with someone as awesome as Aimee Mann on stage? There’s still time to make a video of you singing her new single “Freeway” and submitting it to the Aimee Mann Freeway Contest on YouTube. Visit http://aimeemann.com/freewaycontest/ for further details.

To prove how easy it is, I made this in just a few minutes. It speaks for itself, so I won’t try. What is there to be scared of? Give it a shot! There’s currently only 50 entries, and you have until July 7th to enter.

Ho Ho Ho

I was cleaning out an old hard drive, and I came across this random collection of hip-hop songs that I pieced together into a little mix with the plan of giving it to you guys at some point in time. Short term memory and life crises all coming together, I guess I forgot about it for a while. Well, better late than never, I guess. Here’s a (possibly the most) random collection that I guess I (at some point) cobbled together for your listening pleasure. I know you gonna dig this.

TRACKLISTING:

1 – Clipse, “Dirty Money”
2 – Ghostface Killah, “Kilo”
3 – Robin Thicke ft. Lil’ Wayne, “Shooter” (clean)
4 – Nas, “Hip Hop Is Dead”
5 – Chubb Rock ft. Biz Markie, “No Head, No Backstage Pass”
6 – Public Enemy, “New Whirl Odor”
7 – ????? with Three 6 Mafia, “Stay Fly” (Remix)
8 – Gil-Scott Heron, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”

FUNNY: Akon Calls T-Pain

Big ups to Brad for the hookup. Butternut Reduction!

Pornophony

The cool kids over at Pornophony have started what is being called the (wait for it…) Indie ‘Beat’ Off. In short, you have 7 days to take their indie rock track and create a remix out of what they give you. Pinch it, poke it, twist it, curl it, fade it, braid it, extend it or suspend it — the level of glamour is completely up to you.

Every Monday, a new track will be posted for mixing. After you remix it, submit it to Pornophony, at which point it will be judged by none other than yours truly, along with Stereobotic and Rock Sellout. This contest is open to anyone who wants to give it a shot, so have some fun for a change! For a complete list of rules, click here to check it out, and good luck!

Yes, yes I did because everyone has an older brother who dresses like this and a younger brother who dresses like Billy Idol and breakdances.

I get stuck driving the car down Memory Lane and, you know, sometimes the memory gets stuck on some seriously off-the-wall shit. It started when I was laughing it up about these Nike SB Pee Wee Herman’s and then I thought about ol’ Joeski Love. I mean, old school heads know this track and remember how crazy it was back in them “back in the”. Here go the video, the MP3, I mean…it’s so out of print you ain’t gonna find this joint anywhere but here and the swap meet. This MP3 is ripped from vinyl, son. It’s the Pee Wee Herman new dance sensation. Pro Tip: check out Ice-T in there. LOL.

Puma Heat Active Basket Snakeskin

I wanted an excuse to post this picture of this pair of sick-as-hell snakeskin Puma Heat Active Basket’s that I would love to get my hands on. I also wanted an excuse to post an MP3 of a great lost disco track that I love by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ‘88 entitled “I’ll Tell You”. It comes from their 1978 album Magic Lady and I have no idea if this is even in print anymore. It’s probably not. Okay, put on dancing shoes. Have a funkin’ good time.

Something is terribly wrong with this picture...like the picture.

I know I’ve been bad about updating. Okay, well…life is happening. But I can’t just abandon the one thing that keeps it all together, can I? Summertime in Memphis is so hot, your feet can’t touch the pavement and nobody wants to move. It’s 103 in the shade, and it’s that swampy, nasty heat that makes you take three showers a day and still feel funky. So, in honor of the funky, nasty heat of summertime, I dug out some of my favorite jams for you to get you in the groove. Some of these you know, some maybe not. Whatever the case, this here is some random funky R&B, soul, and disco tracks that bring cool breezes. Jamaica funk, that’s what it is. I gotta get it into you. Strap on your roller skates, put on your hot pants, get ready to hit the boardwalk with boombox in hand. Summer is here, nothing left to do but dance.

Tom Browne – Funkin’ For Jamaica
Chaka Khan – Clouds
Change – Paradise
Denise LaSalle – I’m So Hot
Bobby Womack – Daylight

Two of these tracks appear on the compilation Journey Into Paradise: The Larry Levan Story which you can, and should, purchase for maximum enjoyment by clicking here and then buying it.
