Along comes a video for yet another totally ill track off Skewby’s epic “Proving You Wrong Since 1988″ mixtape which, if you don’t have already, you can get by clicking here and downloading it, aiight?
A breakdance classic, this got played on K-97 in Memphis *ALL* the time when I was growing up. If you don’t have it already, well — now you do.
If you don’t know about the documentary known simply as The Carter, it’s time you became familiar. Â The movie, which screened at this year’s Berlin and Sundance Film Festivals (among others) to rave reviews, gives fans and foes an inside look at the mind and the day-to-day world of what it’s like to be Lil Wayne. Â The movie will be released next week on DVD, giving anyone willing to pony up $15 a chance to see for themselves what goes on behind the scenes. If you didn’t trust me before, now y’all will know — it’s not easy being Weez. It’s all there — the drugs, the excess, the fights, the drama — exposed for all the world to see in a way you probably never imagined Wayne would even allow.
Variety has said about this movie, “‘The Carter’ is the ‘Don’t Look Back’ of rap” — a comparison who’s fairness I look forward to testing on my own. Â Whether you like, love, dislike, or hate Lil Wayne, you cannot ignore his presence as a force in music and culture. Â There’s a realistic fear on Wayne’s part that this movie might ruin his image and his career, but I’m pretty sure that his folk anti-hero status is well-secure in the modern era. Â I can’t think about all of that — I’m ready to pop the popcorn and chill out at home for the night to learn more about one of the most important and polarizing figures in modern music.

Skewby, “Proving You Wrong Since 1988 – The Mixtape”
Hip-hop heads, Skewby is in the house and he’s letting you know right up-front: this ain’t what you’re used to. Proving You Wrong Since 1988 is a warning filled with shots fired at the status quo of Memphis’s traditional style of rap. I’ve had this sitting in my queue for a couple of months now, and to say I slept on it would be an understatement. Don’t you be a sleeper, too — if you do not have this mixtape, you are sleeping on one of the illest mixtapes I’ve heard come out of Memphis in my life.
If you’re looking for another gangsta rap mixtape, you’re in the wrong place — this is straight original styles mixtape with the love and respect to the masters I have never seen the likes of here. Shouts to DJ Crumbz and DJ Charlie White. Wake up and download it here now now now gooo.

Is the world ready for Total Savage? Fresh off an opening bid with the Mashter of Ceremonies Girl Talk, Memphis rapper Total Savage is about as next as it gets. I think this video, directed by Brad Phelan, speaks for itself — so let there be no question. Tonight, he’ll be blowing up the stage at Hi-Tone with the grand masters of Aristocrunk, Lord T and Eloise. Get ready to get it bumping out the frame, Memphis.
Respect @Ninjasonik for his take on this Major Lazer jawn. This track is officially bumping out frames at the Loudersoft crib. ENJOY!
This is a promo video for the new Ninjasonik release “MИWKA presents Darth Baño”, featuring 17 new tracks by Telli of Ninjasonik.

As part of the 2009 International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, the Red Bull Music Academy put together a creativity workshop session featuring ?uestlove (the drummer for The Roots) and jam-jazz-folk legend Bela Fleck. During the weekend presentation at Ardent Studios, Quest addressed a series of questions from moderator Lucia Kaminsky about both his personal background in music and the state of the music industry over the 22 years in which The Roots have been together. Now, if y’all haven’t ever heard Quest talking about anything before, you really ought to listen: he offered up to the tightly-packed audience a lot of good insights and information. His insights are always on point and on time.

This is a very fresh new video for N.A.S.A.’s track “Hip-Hop”. Featuring guest appearances from Slim Kid Tre, Fatlip and KRS-One, it’s a bumping video bound to turn a party out. N.A.S.A.’s The Spirit Of The Apollo (including the song “Hip-Hop”) will be released on February 17th.

It’s been a very busy and awe-inspiring year for A-Trak. Looking at the whole picture, he’s worn the hat of DJ, mixer, arranger, producer, record label magnate and you know…what can I say? The man has really stepped up his game to another level. Even with so much on his plate, he appears to be taking it all in stride. If you read this blog with any frequency, you already know we tend to dote on A-Trak pretty heavily around here because, well….I mean, skillz. He’s got mad skillz. Respect.
So we had to let y’all know: his website is up and crackin’, he’s got the blog going, and he will likely hip you to content you’re not going to find anywhere else on the web. Suggest you take a trip over to http://djatrak.com and see what he’s putting out there for y’all. He’s also doing guest postings at The FADER blog from time to time, so be sure and keep an eye on the haps over there, too. Hey! He’s even giving away a fresh pair of Fool’s Gold limited-edition Nike Air Max’s too!
Now I gotta go figure out how I’m getting to Mississippi tomorrow. Y’all be good.

I got a tweet from my boy over at NASDANK about this track which, I guess, Charles Hamilton decided to just one-off to commemorate November 10, 2008. It’s pretty smoking, so I guess you oughta listen to it! NASDANK tells me that this comes straight from Mr. Hamilton himself, so if you’re one of those people combing the nets for “illegal MP3’s”, take it up with Charles. And Charles, if that’s you, I hope reposting this was okay?? Email me if it aint and I’ll get rid of it.
In the meantime, the Hamiltonization process continues…word.
