Head over to Fluxblog and check out the song “Friends” from Ween’s new EP. Then, go buy the thing from Chocodog records.

Leslie Feist is everything I want in a performer and nothing I don’t – she is a risk taker, she is passionate, beautiful, constantly crosses boundaries of musical landscapes with a mere wave of her hands. She is one of my favorite Canadian exports in music, and I’m obviously not alone. Evidenced by the packed-to-the-tent-stakes crowd at her Bonnaroo 2007 show, I’m not the only one impressed by her body of work. Her third album, The Reminder is another cornerstone in her growing legacy. The songs from Reminder were sprinkled delicately throughout her set, playfully moody and inviting from the first strum to the last hum. If you’ve never heard Feist, now would be a good time to quit lollygagging and get to it.

It’s hard to compare and contrast one show by The Flaming Lips versus another unless, of course, you’ve seen them through the various manifestations of their thing. I had a conversation about the shows we used to see in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s of the Lips with their bubble machines and their light shows that really served as a launching pad for what the crowd at Bonnaroo got to experience this year. Had I not been running around trying to photographs of everyone, I would have stayed for more of their set. To put it succinctly, what I caught was pure musical spectacle the likes of which have not been seen from any modern touring act I can name. Wayne Coyne & Co. have perfected the art of the concert “event”, and I only hope that you, too, will some day get a chance to see the Flaming Lips live yourself. These pictures only tell a small portion of the story.

Honestly, sometimes the words I write don’t do justice to the situations that I’m in. At Bonnaroo, that’s often the case — it’s so three-dimensional all the time that trying to put the English language to task seems unrealistic. Here’s some pictures that I’m particularly proud of, from shows I’ve enjoyed to old friends I’ve seen again.
