The Black Keys first single from their soon-to-be-released (and highly anticipated) El Camino feels like the work of a band out to rescue rock and roll from its seemingly overdue extinction. Dredged in thick layers of hill country blues, 60′s psych, sweat and gasoline fumes, there’s little doubt after first listen that The Black Keys return to the studio won’t be some sort of thrown-together cash in or hodge-podge. The Keys are craft masters who were clearly not satisfied to rest on their laurels and accolades; the snarling guitar howls and fiery vocal delivery of Dan Auerbach matches so fluidly with Patrick Carney’s relentless rhythms and the seamless production style of Dangermouse, filling in a blank space unmatched by anyone in modern music.
And look, I’ll just say it: I don’t know who the dancer is in this video, but he has MOVES. El Camino will be released on 6 December, just in time for the holidays.

And, oh yeah one more thing: For the special Record Store Day’s “Back to Black” Friday (25 November), you can obtain a limited edition 12-inch of “Lonely Boy” from participating indie music retailers. Ain’t that swell?
