A quick P.S.A.: Thanks to all the PR people who send me cool & interesting new tracks to check out and share. You’re doing a great job and I’m sure the labels and artists appreciate it. On the real tip, though, don’t be offended if I ignore your emails most of the time. Its not that I don’t read them, it’s that I’m not going to (at least not intentionally) post the same track that 1000 other music blogs already posted two weeks ago. I’d rather just post out-of-print disco and hip-hop records. The kids seem to like old disco & hip-hop records, maybe you heard? Also, I read a lot of the other blogs that you send those tracks to. If I didn’t cross-post it from them, I’m not going to post it when you email me the same thing several days or weeks later.
So please don’t take offense: if you’re only emailing me the fourth and fifth round stuff, I’ll ignore it.
Now onto the first track of the day. Sometimes, it feels like the good tracks disappear off the planet. We DJ/blogger folks, we do our best to keep them above ground. This song was (so I’m told) absolutely huge in the summer of 1978, and it’s still one of my all-time favorite disco tracks. I looked all over the place for the best version of this long out-of-print classic I could find. This was the closest thing I could find to what I really wanted on short notice so I hope you like it.
I don’t know whatever happened to Bell & James, but this was their only major hit. I’ve got another B&J record to check out, I’ll report back if it’s got any tracks on it.
And hey: to all the remixers and DJ’s out there big and small, may you each set your weekend “fireworxxx mixxx” ablaze. Just try not to burn the house down, okay?
