Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings on Dinner With The Band
Do you like food? Of course you do, you gotta eat. Do you like music? Well, you’re reading a music blog — I sure hope so. At the intersection of food and music is the IFC original series DINNER WITH THE BAND. An inspired creation born from the minds of producers Darin & Greg Bresnitz, the six preview episodes of the series air each Tuesday night from November 24th until December 29th at 11pm EST/PST on IFC.
The television series, which stars prominent NYC chef Sam Mason, may already be familiar to you. Already a tremendous hit on the internet, DWTB is now making the transition from the internet to IFC. And if you’ve ever been to SOHO’s contemporary dining and cocktail parlor, Tailor, or watched the show Iron Chef, you may already be familiar with Mason, a young chef who’s made a big splash in the Big Apple.
So what do they serve up? Well, DWTB is equal parts food, conversation and music. In Mason’s Brooklyn loft, bands are taught some of his “tricks of the trade” that can help to spice up their food when they’re on the road. After a delicious meal, the invited bands offer up a performance right there in his loft. Doesn’t this sound amazing?
DWTB is the first cooking show to combine exquisite cuisine with renowned and acclaimed independent music artists, both in conversation and in performance. While the season doesn’t fully launch until April of 2010, tonight begins a sneak preview, what they’re calling “the appetizer course”, of what’s to come. Featured on the premiere episode will be none other than Brooklyn’s finest and most soulful, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. In the weeks to come, other bands included in their “hors d’oeuvres course” are Kid Sister and Flosstradamus, Les Savy Fav, Yacht, Final Fantasy, and Men.
Make sure to tune in and check out Dinner With The Band every Tuesday night on IFC through December 29th, then get ready for the season premiere in April of 2010.
