They’re best known for their insane onstage antics — things like making out with each other and pissing into their own mouths. I mean, I can’t make this stuff up folks — I’ve seen it in action (…pause).
But on top of that sideshow freakishness, Georgia’s self-proclaimed “flower punk” band Black Lips are a stunning live rock experience unlike anything you’re likely to ever see. High energy, a group dynamic that is unprecedented, and hey — they can play their instruments in the nude without blinking. Wait a minute….paused again.
Recently, they escaped the jaws of death on a trip to India (in which members attempted a couple of the previously mentioned stage tricks to the chagrin of locals). They survived long enough to give us a chance this aptly-titled track from their highly anticipated upcoming album, 200 Million Thousand, entitled “Short Fuse”.
EDIT: If you tried to download the song before and got a 1 minute clip, try again. It’s fixed (thanks @ViceRecsChris)
More after the jump.
Amidst fall-out from an abruptly canceled Indian tour (more on that in a second), Atlanta-based madmen The Black Lips have premiered yet another song from their highly-anticipated follow-up to 2007’s Good Bad Not Evil. “Short Fuse,” the second track released from 200 Million Thousand (due February 24th via Vice Records) landed early praise from KEXP, Pitchfork and a host of others. As Stereogum notes, it draws on “state-mates R.E.M.’s jangly salad days in the verse, with plenty of weird whooshing space sounds to keep tight to their ‘flower-punk’ self-descriptors.” Hear for yourself below.
In other news, the Lips ran into a spot of trouble over the weekend while making their touring debut in the great nation of India. Turns out on-stage nudity doesn’t go over so well there and got the band booted from stage, and essentially chased out of the country. Yesterday we finally caught up with Joe Bradley, holed up in King Khan’s house in Berlin, to get the skinny, which can be found at the link below.

The Lips’ official Vimeo.com video contest (http://www.vimeo.com/blacklipscontest) is still going strong – just a few Million Thousand more submissions to go. Entries will be accepted on Vimeo until February 15th. And, of course, there’s a never-ending tour slated to kick off only days later on February 26th at the Bottle Tree in Birmingham.
