I remember the first time I saw Swayzak on these shores, it was at Endfest 2000 in Seattle and I was about four Choco-Tacos short of being the Good Humor Man. An acquaintance of mine introduced us and I watched them perform in the electronic pavilion. Yada, yada, yada, they were amazing. Later that night, Brun & James and I sat in the ballroom with various friends/girlfriends/boyfriends/fans/etc hanging around, they played records and eventually we talked all night long. They made me laugh and smile. Their musicality and love of music blew me away.
I have never stopped being impressed by their successive new releases, but it often bums me out that I have to dig around to find out when they’re coming out. Such was the case with this latest Swayzak release, entitled Some Other Country, due out very shortly from K7! The delightful sparse minimalist techno that they are so adept at inventing is beautifully and richly laid out in these 10 tracks. Like last year’s record by The Knife, Some Other Country is poised to become my pick for the best electronic release of 2007 and will definitely be in my top ten.
