No Matter What I Came Here To Do, A-Trak and Chromeo Came Here To Say…

04.27.07 | No Comments

One of the big highlights of CMJ last fall was Vice Late Nights @ Cakeshop. Somehow, 250 people managed to fit into a room that comfortably holds 60 maximum for a series of knock-down drag-out sessions that smacked up every fool that set foot into the place. Calling the experience “amazing” or “breathtaking” or “dope”, that’s just not enough. Anyways, the point is that one particular night stands out among the rest — Flosstradamus, Kid Sister, Chromeo and A-Trak blew the fucking house apart.

DJ A-TrakTonight, A-Trak (known to much of the world as “the only DJ with mad skills enough to cut for Kanye West”)will be appearing at Jillian’s Billiards in Memphis, TN. Performing to an invite-only crowd, along with New York club DJ extraordinaire Stretch Armstrong, A-Trak will be mashing and serving in what should prove to be one of the illest adventures those turntables have ever seen. His newest (?) joint, Dirty South Dance is another piece of ingenuity that can’t be touched: A-Trak takes the dirrrty dirrrrty thug jams that we all love ’round Memphis and mashes them out into a completely *other* universe. Witness the glory of Clipse featuring Slim Thug’s “Wamp Wamp” reworked into a total and complete ass-shaker. This show is not to be missed, and neither is this CD.

Yesss It's Chrome-OMeanwhile, A-Trak’s big brother Dave 1, along with his ‘podna Pee Thugg (known to the world as Chromeo) have a new record about to drop on Vice that people around Loudersoftville can’t stop fucking dancing to. Fancy Footwork is steeped in sweat-drippin, ass-wigglin’ sunglasses-is-a-must-at-the-club ’80s funktastacles. Chromey takes that Yarborough & Peeples/Zapp/Cameo/Skyy thing to a level that has been missing for far too long. Peep out “Tenderoni” and get’cha groove on, baby!

Chromeo – “Tenderoni”

A-Trak will appear in Memphis tonight at Atlas @ Jillian’s. You can purchase Dirty South Dance from Turntablelab when it comes back in stock. Visit him on MySpace by clicking here.

Chromeo’s new album Fancy Footwork will be out from Vice Recordings shortly. You can purchase some Chromeo from iTunes Chromeo by clicking here. Visit them on MySpace by clicking here.
