The “great white hype” behind engenue Lana Del Rey continues to escape me as an overall “thing”, but I mean what the hell do I know? No offense to Ms. Del Rey (who is, no doubt, a lovely young woman), there is a sad blandness to much of her studio work that I guess I’m lost in.
Culturally, her music continues to mine the past for future gold on a quest to uncover the imperative significance of a Budweiser commercial to our common story as Americans. But in spite of the see-through reconstructionist theory of the songs she performs, there continue to be fascinating remixes by folks like this piece from Lindstrøm, premiered by FACT MAG today. As JTK pointed out to me on Twitter, it’s the Lindstrøm effect of this 9+ minute gem that makes you want to get up and move. The more I listen, the more I’m lured in. And who knows? It might all just break my spirit and suddenly make sense.
